Unexpected Morning – Boat On Fire

Our morning started with a bang, while I was still stumbling around waiting on my morning coffee. One of our neighbor’s girls knocked on our door and told me their dad’s boat was on fire! It took a few seconds for that to register in my sleepy brain, but sure enough, there was the boat across the street in flames!

Our neighbor had called 911 already and within minutes, the firemen arrived. It was a good thing they came when they did because the boat went up so quickly, the tree above it was on fire! The firemen put it out quickly.

I didn’t get any pictures of the actual fire (I was too busy making sure the kids stayed back and helping to corral the neighbor’s kittens and dog.) But I did get a couple “after” shots with my phone. (My phone doesn’t take very good photos.)

They’re not sure of the cause. Our first thought was foul play, but the fire started around 7 (they think) this morning and the police and firemen said it likely would have happened at night if someone did this on purpose. It was all really strange.

The toy Jeep to the right of the boat was melted!

It was scary because the boat burned so quickly and with the dry hot weather, it was just a matter of minutes before it quickly spread. If our neighbor’s son hadn’t spotted the fire when he did, it could have been very very bad. But God was very good and looked out for them – and our whole neighborhood.

The tree near the boat was partially burnt and has a lot of ashy leaves falling. You can’t see it very well, but here’s a photo I took:

That’s not shadows from the middle on up, it’s burnt leaves!

I took the kids for a walk later and we found burnt leaves as far as two blocks away!

It was quite an unexpected morning! No one was hurt and we are all so thankful!

  1. Thank you God, nobody was hurt. You did the right thing to protect you children and yourself. Also, taught them cooperation, responsibility and been a good neighbor by taken care of the neighbor’s kitties and dog.

I would be like ????????? if someone told me their boat was on fire and it wasn’t running or on a lake.

Poor little Jeep burnt up. I don’t know what the weather has been like where you are but if that had happened here it would have got out of control
