Keep Track of Your Family With Verizon Family Locator

Do you ever wish you could keep better track of your family? It may not be an issue if you have small children, but for elementary age kids and up, keeping tabs on them can be more challenging. Whether it’s safety factor or just convenience, Verizon Family Locator is a new app designed to help us do exactly that.

Some of its features include:

  • Family Location – an interactive map displays a detailed location of your family member with an address and driving directions using the VZ Navigator application
  • Arrival/Departure Updates – provides updates when a family member arrives or leaves a defined location, such as home or school
  • Scheduled Updates – verify the location of a family member at specific times you choose
  • Share Locations – Share locations by email, text message, or post to Facebook

My children are still on the young side, but my oldest is nine years old and quickly reaching a more independent age. Nathan doesn’t have his own cell phone, but I know it’s just a matter of time as he starts to do more things without us. Recently, he went to an all day karate camp for a week and one day, they went to an amusement park. I fully trusted the people Nathan was with and I wasn’t concerned about his safety.

More than just for safety concerns, The Verizon Family Locator would have come in handy at the end of the day when I needed to pick Nathan up. We ended up having to wait 1/2 hour for their van to arrive because they were running late. Of course I had my other kids with me and they were grumpy and hungry for their dinner because I didn’t know things would be delayed. If I had the Verizon Family Locator, I could have checked the app to see exactly where Nathan was and planned to arrive when he did. It would have saved me a lot of time and frustration.

The Verizon Family Locator app costs $9.99 a month per household account. That means you can use it for as many cell phones in your family as you need for the same cost. From now until the beginning of August, you can download a free 30 day trial of the app. What better time to try it out! This is such a good idea and a reasonable price too. It’s also good for kids to have a cell phone in case they get lost or separated from you or a group. It’s what I call mom keeping her sanity. I know I always wanted to know where my daughter was even in her early 20′s. She’s my only child and letting go was really hard for me. She understood so it wasn’t to bad. Now we text each other multiply times a day and she’s 26. I think 9 or 10 is a good age to get them a cell phone because of all the crazy weirdos in this world.

I like the idea of the app but I wish they had a phone/button option that would allow you to track your children but they do not get a fully functioning cell phone they have a device that either just transmits their location or allows them to call their parents and 911

I’m always amazed how much has changed since I was a kid to when my kids will be a very different type of independent. What an amazing invention!

  9. This will definitely come handy, once we have teenagers in our house.

Wow, you see stuff on tv all the time, but don’t think you can use it. We have Verizon and a lot of the other companies have this. Verizon is the only
wireless company that actually reaches to our home. This is great, I have a lot of medical problems and this would really help my husband know where I was if I had to go out alone. This is awesome for the kiddies too, parents can get it for their parents, to keep a watch. We have my MIL already, so it will be an easy switch for her too.
Thanks so much, its so good to hear that it works and avalble.

This would really give a parent peace of mind knowing where their kids were at all times!

Verizon Family Locator is wildly inaccurate. If you have an iPhone 4s or later, use the Find My Friend app, if Android, use Google Latitude, I use both on my iPhone, they work differently but they work! VZW Family locator requires too many steps to use or log in, sends your child a notification text every time you look up your child, and they could be anywhere within a 1/2 mile radius of their actual location —uh how helpful is that? maybe there are a few phones that might give a more accurate picture, but we all have different phones and it should be a lot easier to use. Really wanted to like this as the extra features sounded cool, one of my boys has a feature phone, but VZW really want you to use data features so it ends up being a half baked locating effort, its not accurate enough. My older boy has an iPhone and its not compatible for the most part, It showed him as being on Manhattan waterfront when he was actually on Brooklyn waterfront. Google Latitude had him pinpointed accurately, for FREE! With Find My Friends, I can locate him a half block down the street at his friends house, with VZW, it just shows us both in the same neighborhood, he could be anywhere within a mile! So why should I pay for this half baked idea even if its only $10 for the whole family. ONE STAR OUT OF FIVE!
