I wanted to make a special Rice Krispies treat recipe for Easter with the kids this week. I looked at recipes online, but I just couldn’t find what I had in mind. So I added peanut butter to the original recipe and came up with these treats. They’re very simple to make and so much fun. My kids loved them.
They’re regular Rice Krispies treats with peanut butter. The coconut is completely optional – I thought it added a cute touch, but turns out my kids didn’t like it. Oh well.
(scroll to the bottom for the complete printable recipe)
What You’ll Need:
- 3 TB butter or margarine
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 1 package (about 10 oz) marshmallows
- 6 cups of Rice Krispies
- coconut & green food coloring (optional)
- candy eggs (M&Ms, Robin Eggs, etc.)
First, add 3 tablespoons of butter to a large saucepan and melt it. Then add 1/2 cup of peanut butter.
Stir until the peanut butter is melted and the mixture is smooth.
Add the bag of marshmallows – the whole thing.
Stir it up:
Keep stirring until the marshmallows are completely melted. I turned the heat up to medium to speed it up a little. I can be a little impatient from time to time. Doesn’t that look ooey gooey yummy?
Remove the pan from the heat and pour in the 6 cups of Rice Krispies.
Mix it up. This might be a little tricky because it’s soo sticky. At the end, you might need to use your hands. (Tip: grease your hands with butter or margarine first – it’s less sticky that way.)
Now you can dye the coconut green if you want. Just add a couple drops.
Now shape a handful of Rice Krispies Treats like a nest and add some coconut
Add the candy and you’re done! For the “eggs”, we used egg-shaped M&M’s (yes, there are special “egg” M&Ms this years. Of course the peanut M&Ms are egg-shaped too…) You could also use jelly beans, those yummy “Robin Eggs” or whatever you have on hand.
If you don’t like coconut, don’t add it. The treats will still be cute & fun!
