Jcpenney Portraits – Tips & Values

Spring is a great time to get family portraits taken. Perhaps your family has grown or at least, your children certainly have. The warmer weather lends an element of joy to the atmosphere and it’s the perfect time to capture a special memory. There’s also graduations, holidays, birthdays, and many other reasons.

Jcpenney portrait studios is offering a great deal for the month of April. For $20, you can get 6 traditional portrait sheets and you can mix and match sizes and images, plus get one free $9 sitting fee. My favorite part of that deal (besides the awesome price of course) is that you can choose different images. Often the package deals only apply to one picture and that can be so hard to choose from when you have so many photos. With this deal, you don’t have to sacrifice price to get the pictures you want.

With our family of six, it can certainly be an adventure to get photos taken. But I’ve learned a few things. Here’s a couple of my personal portrait-taking tips:

  1. This is pretty common sense, but make sure you time it for when your kids are likely to be happiest. For my family, that’s early morning – before nap times and not in the afternoon, when my little ones might be crankier.
  2. Include small children’s favorite stuffed toy or “lovey” – ragged or not. It’s part of who they are and it might mean the difference between a happy child or not.
  3. This is my biggest tip – don’t stress about the photo being perfect. I used to put such emphasis on getting everyone to smile perfectly. But one day it occurred to me – they might not all be smiling – maybe one child is poking another, maybe one is making a funny face. But that’s life. Perfect smiles aren’t reality and I’d rather remember my family as happy and carefree than perfect.
Jcpenney studios has a few tips as well. They recommend wearing coordinating clothing, bringing your own props such as a special toy or blanket. They also want to remind us to ask the photographer for help. Not sure about what background to choose? Get their opinion. Remember, they’re experts!

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of jcpenney Portrait Studio. I was asked to create a Pinterest Board and pin at least five (5) pins. I give jcpenney the right to repin any or all images/original content from this board. I received a promotional item as a thanks for my participation.

  3. I love getting family pictures done because the end photos are so worth it, but it can definitely be stressful. I agree that most of the time not everyone will be smiling but if everyone stays relaxed the pictures can still be great (and they’ll definitely be memorable, lol).

  5. These are great tips! It’s hard to not want the perfect photo, but kids don’t always enjoy sitting in front of the camera or smiling on cue :)

  7. One of our favorite family pics is when my son was about 3 and he would not smile for the cameras. The photographer had my two older girls lean over and kiss him on the cheeks at the same time – perfect picture!

Thanks for the tips! I’m going to pass them along to my daughter’s friend who has a 3 yr old and 4 month old. I love JC Penny’s Portrait Studio. I used to get my daughter’s pictures taken there when she was little and now she’s 26 yrs old. My sister takes my neices ages 8 and 4 yrs old there. Kind of a family tradition. It’s even better now than it was back in the 80’s because you can see your pics on the computer to see which ones you want. Like you said it’s better when kids are just being themselves.
