When a recipe calls for shortening, it can mean a greasy mess in your measuring cups. At least that’s what it used to mean for me.
Until I discovered an easy trick that makes measuring shortening quick & easy and doesn’t leave you with greasy measuring cups that are a pain to get clean. It was like the softening butter tip – so easy, I wondered why I didn’t think of it long ago.
Use a kitchen scale. Put down waxed paper, zero the scale out, and spoon the shortening onto the waxed paper.
1 cup of shortening = 6 ounces.
When you have the amount you need, just dump it in your bowl and toss the waxed paper in the trash. Now all you have to clean is the spoon. How easy is that?!
